Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Eagle Plant Chard Apprentice 03

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at

Eagle Plant, 9th – 15th February.

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, a time to shine a light on the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the wider economy. At Eagle Plant, we’re proud to invest in the next generation of engineers who help power our plant hire services across the South West.

As a growing plant hire company in the South West, we understand that the future of our industry depends on skilled, motivated people. That’s why we currently support eight apprentices across seven of our branches, all at different stages of their training and development.

Investing in the Future of Plant Hire

Any business that wants to grow needs to invest in the next generation. As the saying goes, you reap what you sow, and we see that every day in our workshops.

Our apprentices are learning vital skills in plant maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs, ensuring our machinery remains reliable, safe, and ready for our customers across the South West and beyond.

Here are just a few of the apprentices helping to shape the future of Eagle Plant.

Deacon in our Chard branch

Deacon began his Land-Based Engineering course on 7th July 2025 and has quickly made a positive impression on the team.

A hardworking and reliable apprentice, Deacon is always punctual and willing to take on new challenges. He’s performing well at college and earning the respect of the workshop team.

When asked about his future ambitions, Deacon shared that he hopes to continue working at Eagle Plant, progress through the ranks, and one day possibly become Workshop Foreman. His goal is to keep learning, take on new responsibilities, and be a strong team player, exactly the attitude we value.

Jack joined Eagle Plant at 16 with a real eagerness to learn how plant machinery works and how it is stripped down and rebuilt. From the beginning, his willingness and positive attitude stood out.

Mentored by Byron and Lewis, Jack has developed strong workshop skills and can now complete many tasks confidently and efficiently. He arrived with good mechanical knowledge and has continued to build on this.

His college tutor speaks highly of him, noting that he is always the first to volunteer for new tasks. With his final exam approaching in May.

Now insured to operate machinery and support with breakdowns and deliveries, Jack has already taken on significant responsibility. His commitment, initiative, and strong work ethic make him a valued member of the Eagle Plant team.

Rafah joined Eagle Plant in September last year and is currently in the first year of his three-year apprenticeship to become a plant fitter.

Since starting, he has shown great enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, getting involved in a wide range of workshop tasks. This week, he has been working alongside one of our co-owners on repairing and refurbishing hydraulic breaker units, gaining valuable hands-on experience and insight into specialist plant equipment.

Rafah is building strong foundations for his future in the plant hire industry, and we look forward to seeing his skills develop further over the coming years here at Eagle Plant in the South West.

Billy in our Tiverton branch

Billy joined us nearly three years ago and is close to completing his third year. Throughout his apprenticeship, he has consistently received excellent reports from the college.

Over time, Billy has become a key member of our workshop team, confidently carrying out everything from simple bulb replacements to complex diagnostics. He combines traditional mechanical knowledge with modern technology, an essential skillset in today’s plant hire industry.

It’s been a pleasure to watch Billy grow in both confidence and capability, and to see him develop into such a valued part of Eagle Plant.

Harry joined Eagle Plant seven months ago at just 16 years old. He is currently studying an engineering course at Stafford College NSCG, travelling around 40–45 minutes from Wheaton Aston to attend both college and work placements with us.

Harry has shown real dedication, balancing work and studying. With his provisional driving licence secured, he’s looking forward to gaining even more independence soon.

In the workshop, Harry particularly enjoys servicing machines and getting hands-on with plant equipment. While inflating tyres and greasing might not be his favourite tasks, he’s embracing all aspects of the role. Once qualified, Harry hopes to continue working within the plant industry, something we’re delighted to hear.
